Produced at Maetierra, a winery owned by Vintae, this is a project based on four vineyards: Two are old-vine tempranillo dating to the 1920s and ’50s; one is garnacha planted in the 1920s; the fourth is graciano planted in the 1980s. They come together in a pretty red, a tight, silken mouthful of wine. This has the ripeness of cherries in syrup, but it’s savory and austere. There’s a lot of American oak in the aroma, needing air to relent and reveal the lush, warm, rich sweetness of fruit, even as the tannins continue to keep it dry. A juicy Rioja for steak.

Maetierra

Vintae has its origin in José Miguel Arambarri Terrero's passion for wine. A businessman from La Rioja in 1999, he decided to return to his family origins, recovering the Small Grain Muscat in La Rioja which had disappeared due to phylloxera. His vision gave rise to Castillo de Maetierra and Maetierra Dominum, the two wineries that were the origin of Vintae and where he began to develop Libalis. With the incorporation of his two sons, Richi and José Miguel, into Vintae, it became the top-notch producer it is today.

'At Vintae, we are a crazy bunch that loves to have fun, enjoy life, and dream about creating wine. Following a decade of traveling to all corners of Spain, we have set up camp in 14 different regions, where the vineyard takes center stage and we try to transmit the story and landscape of each region through the wines that we make. All of the effort and love that we put into our work has a single objective: make the wonderful world of wine available to all that are open to and interested in exploring it.' - Vintae.com
