Located in Haro, at the heart of the Rioja region, Bodegas Muga proudly upholds the rich traditions of this iconic Spanish area. Established in 1932 by Isaac Muga and Aurora Caño, the winery remains a family-operated venture. Situated in the historic Barrio de La Estación (Station Quarter) of the town, its 25,000 square-meter winery seamlessly blends traditional winemaking techniques with state-of-the-art technology.
Rioja benefits from three distinct climatic influences: the Atlantic Ocean, the Mediterranean, and a continental climate. These competing influences create optimal conditions for winemaking and a perfect environment for the cultivation of the region's traditional grape varieties, including Tempranillo, Mazuelo, and Graciano. Bodegas Muga owns vineyards strategically located across Rioja, each uniquely influenced by these climatic factors, as well as varying terroirs and altitudes. This approach allows them to cultivate grape varieties in locations that suit them best, enhancing the quality of the wines produced. Additionally, it enables different expressions from each variety, which are skillfully combined in the final blend to create wines of exceptional complexity. From these remarkable terroirs, Muga crafts its award-winning range, encompassing sparkling Cava, white, rosé, and long-lived red wines such as Prado Enea Gran Reserva. Underscoring its dedication to quality, Muga stands out as the sole estate in the region to craft the barrels used for aging its wines.
Bodegas Muga extends a diverse range of engaging and educational activities for wine enthusiasts. Daily tours of the winery and cooperage, featuring a tasting of three wines, are offered from Monday to Saturday. For devoted oenophiles, there is an option to enhance the visit, providing a comprehensive exploration of the entire region and an introductory course on wine tasting and appreciation.
