Spain, specifically Rioja, is where my story in wine began and where my heart remains still. Many years after moving to Toronto from Vancouver, I became the sommelier at the downtown hotspot Patria, and from there sought to expose Ontario to the surging wine renaissance that has become a full-blown Golden Age. A new generation of adventurous, risk-tolerant winemakers have reclaimed forgotten vines clinging to steep mountainsides across the region. Rioja is an incredibly special and diverse wine appellation that in my opinion to this day remains one of the most underappreciated in the entire world. So to showcase this diversity, terroir and the incredible wines being made there I will be pouring some of my favourite wines from the region with a paired menu at the Vintage Conservatory on April 22nd.

In collaboration with Rioja's Consejo Regulador (DOCa), we will be showcasing true classics that have made wine for over a century like Lopez de Heredia and Cosme Palacio, wines that having drank them can last 50-60 years. We will also be showcasing the new school of winemaking in Rioja with wineries like Artuke and Remirez de Ganuza, focusing on terroir, elegance and with incredible energy. Each wine is a thread in a story of my five years working every day with these wines, and we look forward to sharing them with you.

Hosted at The Vintage Conservatory. A private members' club for wine enthusiasts seeking to entertain and do business whilst enjoying bottles from their own collections. The VC provides a secure, welcoming and controlled setting for like minded individuals to share their passion for wine, wine education and renowned private dining.
