"One of the under-the-radar gems of Saint-Émilion, the 2016 Haut-Segottes is once again terrific. Ripe, sumptuous and expressive, it captures the sexiness of the vintage. Floral and red-toned Lavors abound in a pliant, supple Saint-Émilion that will offer considerable pleasure pretty much upon release. The significant presence of Cabernet Franc adds brightness, lift and nuance. Hints of sweet tobacco and rose petal linger. Two thousand sixteen is a very promising vintage for Haut-Segottes."

The Producer

Château Haut-Segottes

Tradition reigns at Château Haut-Segottes. Harvest is manual; fermentation takes place in cuvée; wines are rotated in the barrels for an élevage of 18 months; approximately 20% of the barrels are new; wines are bottled unfiltered. Although the majority of the vineyards are planted to Merlot, the ultimate cuvée bottled as Saint-Émilion Grand Cru features a majority of Cabernet Franc. This dominance of Cabernet Franc, frequently on the order of 65%, produces a wine of considerable structure and is exceptionally age-worthy.
