"So much fresh pressed violet and blackberry character as well as iodine, quartz, slate and tile. Full body, grippy yet linear and polished tannins, fine acidity and a long, minerally finish. So refined."

The Producer

Podere Sapaio

In 1999, Massimo Piccin worked as an engineer for the family construction business in Vittorio Veneto. It was during this time that he decided to pursue his deep-seated passion for gastronomy and wine. His love for these pursuits was rooted in a strong determination and a profound respect for the earth and its surrounding environment.

His journey began with the search for a suitable estate, ultimately leading him to Bolgheri in Tuscany. The property he acquired was previously a small sharecropping farm, primarily focused on arable lands with a few rows of vines. Through a family friend, Massimo connected with the renowned oenologist Carlo Ferrini, a respected expert in vines and wines in Italy.

Initially, there were only 8 hectares of vines. Ferrini suggested expanding the vineyard's surface area, and from 2002 to 2004, the property grew to its current size of 25 hectares: 16 hectares in Bolgheri and 9 hectares in nearby Bibbona. The land plots span quaternary and flood deposits, featuring coarse sandy beds and draining calcareous soils.
