J. de Villebois stands as a family winery under the ownership of Joost and Miguela de Willebois. Over the past 15 years, this winery has risen to prominence as a premier producer of Sauvignon Blanc in the Loire Valley, boasting a distinctive selection of wines crafted from their own vineyards.
The profound affinity of the owners for France, particularly the regal Loire Valley, finds its roots in Joost's extensive experience throughout various regions of the country. Hailing from the Netherlands, Joost developed a deep passion for France's culture, history, and, naturally, its wines. The lineage of the de Villebois family stretches back 900 years, with ancestors residing in France. In 1630, Louys de Villebois, son of Jean de Villebois, inherited a family estate in the northern part of France, laying the foundation for the family's settlement. The J. de Villebois label serves as a homage to this ancestral connection.
The wine journey of Joost and Miguela commenced in 2004 when they discovered a small, well-managed local winery in the Touraine region. Recognizing the lack of a successor for the owner, who had established a tradition of producing exceptional local Sauvignon Blanc wines, they seized the opportunity to transform the winery into a prominent producer of quality Sauvignon Blanc wines from the Loire region.
Since its inception, J. de Villebois has steadily expanded its business, offering a diverse range of 13 Loire Valley Sauvignon Blanc wines, spanning from entry-level Sauvignon Blanc Vin de France to single-vineyard Sancerre wines. While maintaining a strong focus on the Sauvignon Blanc grape, the winery, situated in Touraine and Sancerre/Pouilly-Fumé, also produces outstanding Pinot Noir. Their commitment to excellence is evident through consistent victories at prestigious French and international wine competitions, including the Decanter World Wine Awards, the International Wine Challenge, and the Concours Mondial du Sauvignon.
