Producer : Elena Fucci
Region : Basilicata (Italy), Italy (Italy)
Bottle Per Case : 6 x 750 ml
The 2013 Titolo is from a cooler vintage. Yet, even at this early stage of evolution, its dark and intense ruby red color still offers substantial and deeply complex aromas. Dark cherry and blackberry scents are dominant, but there are background hints of volcanic minerality, exotic ground wood spices, Mediterranean garrigue, tobacco and vanilla. Restrained ripeness, dry and full bodied on the palate, the firm youthful thrust of tannin powers the long finish, and assures this is another Titolo destined for a great future! Serve with the likes of a braised lamb shank at this stage to bring tranquility to the finish, but the best is yet to come if one can be patient.

Elena Fucci's upbringing took place amidst the vineyards her grandfather, Generoso, was tending in the 1960s, selling the grapes to the local cooperative. Instead of parting with the family land in 2000, Elena Fucci embraced the challenge of caring for the oldest vineyards on Monte Vulture, forever altering the destiny of the Aglianico del Vulture DOC.
Situated 600 meters up on the steep slopes of the dormant volcanic cliffs, Elena Fucci's organic vines thrive under the intense sunlight and benefit from the dramatic temperature fluctuations, which help maintain their lively acidity. Most of these vines were planted in the 1950s in the dark, mineral-rich pozzolanic soils, featuring layers of clay interspersed with lapilli and ash.
The winery concentrates on a single cru, Titolo, to most accurately convey the unique characteristics of Aglianico within their terroir.
In 2016, Elena embarked on another personal project called SCEG, aimed at assisting some friends of her 94-year-old grandfather, Generoso. To safeguard their vines and tradition, she crafts a distinctive wine using the grapes from her friends' 70+ year-old vines, located in four parcels near her family's vineyards.
It's important to remember that taste is subjective, and personal preferences play a significant role.
