Sousel, situated approximately 40 kilometers away from Portalegre in the Alto Alentejo region, has been meticulously reconstructed in accordance with the traditional architecture of the area, resulting in preserving its exceptional beauty. Spanning an expansive area of around 100 hectares, this reservoir is prominently nestled amidst vineyards and olive groves, creating a captivating blend of colours and serenity unique to the Alentejo. These characteristics collectively position Herdade do Rejoice Velho as a part of the São Mamede Route, one of the three routes that constitute the Alentejo wine route.
In the year 2002, a total of 33 hectares of vineyards were planted in a terroir characterized by schist soil on steep slopes and a favorable climate with ample water, indicating immense potential. Winemaker David Both and oenologist António Maçanita combined their expertise, innovation, and commitment to carefully select grape varieties and craft the renowned 'Vine of 100 points.' From 2012 onwards, Nuno Ramalho took over as the current winemaker, and although there is a plan for a new wine cellar, the existing one is already equipped with cutting-edge technology and appropriately sized for producing exceptional and alluring wines that seamlessly blend modern winemaking with tradition.
