"Grown in the hills north of Douro, this wine would likely be considerably more expensive if it were from a fancier neighborhood. As it stands, it's pretty chic-silky in its texture, sunny in its flavors. Its red fruit tastes of crushed strawberries while a cool, earthy tone of rocks and minerals infuses that fruit, lending it depth and persistence. Grab a case to drink this winter; the wine should really begin to open by spring."

Mont'Alegre is an innovative project aimed at showcasing the distinctive qualities of the region. Situated at elevations exceeding 650 meters and matured in Montalegre village, Mont'Alegre introduces a novel approach to Trás-os-Montes region's harvests. All Mont'Alegre wines are crafted from indigenous grape varieties of Trás-os-Montes, cultivated in predominantly granite soils at altitudes surpassing 650 meters.
Currently, the grapes utilized for wine production are carefully chosen and procured from local producers in the region. The maturation process takes place in Montalegre, a locale characterized by unique conditions such as lower atmospheric pressure, reduced oxygen levels, a temperate climate, and milder temperature peaks. These factors contribute to a controlled evolution of aromatic and gustatory characteristics, resulting in wines with freshness, balance, and elegance.
Notably, Francisco Gonçalves has acquired land and is gearing up to establish his inaugural vineyard, poised to be the highest in Portugal at 1025 meters. Spanning two hectares, this will mark the inception of Montalegre's first-ever vineyard.
