"Arana commemorates one of La Rioja Alta's historic families. The Tempranillo (95%) and Graciano (5%) are aged separately in American oak barrels for three years before blending, then for three years in bottle (two years less than the 904, and six years less than the 890). The winery's keynote to this Rioja is 'freshness'. I agree."

"Three years in barrel and three in bottle. This has amazing aromatics: sweet blackberry and black cherry fruit with dried herbs, tar and spice, as well as some hints of vanilla and coconut, and sweet tobacco, too. The palate is juicy and supple, but also quite profound, showing cherries, berries, spice, sweet herbs, some cedar and coconut from the oak, and a lovely sense of harmony and precision. It’s a ripe wine, but shows such complexity and focus, with everything pulling in the right direction. I’m just so impressed with this wine: in its style – classical Rioja – it is just about perfect, and is beginning to enter a very long drinking window. So complex and layered and refined."
96 Points - Jaime Goode, Wine Anorak, September 2020
"Lots of mushroom and walnut aromas with plum and leather, too. It’s full-bodied, but very soft and creamy-textured with lots of old wood, mushroom and ripe fruit on the finish. Some chocolate and hazelnut. Complex and gorgeous. Drink or hold."

La Rioja Alta is one of the most legendary and revered wineries in all of Spain. Since 1890, they have produced wines that are the epitome of traditional Rioja, and have stood the test of time. Across the board, in almost any vintage, they produce extraordinary wines of exceptional purity and complexity.
La Rioja Alta was established exactly 131 years ago. This historic winery, located in the Barrio de la Estación area in Haro was founded by five Basque and Riojan vine growers and holds the honour of having converted the name of the Rioja subzone into their brand. Few wineries anywhere in the world continue the kinds of classic practices that are still the norm here: La Rioja Alta is the embodiment of dedication and heritage.
