Luis Pato is widely regarded as the person who put the wines of Bairrada on the world map. He started making wines in 1980, ten years after his father started bottling the first Bairrada wines, once the region was legally recognized.
The 2022 Vinhas Velhas Branco is an aromatic white wine with fragrances of fresh white fruit, citrus and light smoky touches. On the palate it is light, delicate and balanced. A medium bodied white with an elegant mid palate and a long, fresh finish.

The Pato family has been crafting wine at Quinta do Ribeirinho since at least the 18th century. João Pato commenced bottling wine from his vineyards in 1970, marking the first winemaker in the Bairrada region post its demarcation. This rebellious and pioneering spirit was inherited by his son, Luis Pato. In 1980, Luis crafted his inaugural wine, a pure Baga, renowned for its exceptional quality and absolute rarity, cherished by connoisseurs as a treasure. Over the years, Luis experimented with Baga and successfully produced Portugal's first Vinhas Velhas wine! However, in 1999, he made a personal choice to step away from the DOC denomination, now labeling his wines as Regional Beiras.
Pato's 60 hectares of vineyards boast Baga and Touriga Nacional (red varieties), along with Maria Gomes, Bical, Bairrada’s Cercial, and Sercialinho (white varieties). These vineyards are spread across two distinct soil types: sandy and chalky-clay.
