There is once again fine mid-palate density to the vibrant, sleek and intense middle weight flavors that aren't quite as stony but even more complex and particularly so on the bitter cherry pit-inflected finale. This too is a really lovely effort that should amply repay extended keeping.”

The Producer

Joseph Voillot

Joseph Voillot, a venerable fifth-generation estate, possesses vineyards in the premier locations of both Volnay and Pommard. Currently, the managing director is Joseph Voillot's son-in-law, Jean Pierre Charlot, who collaborated closely with Joseph from 1980 until Joseph's retirement in 1995.

For many years, Jean Pierre served as a professor at the Lycée Viticole in Beaune, where he instructed several of Burgundy's up-and-coming talents. He is a meticulous individual, particularly drawn to navigating the challenging years when vineyard work, harvest sorting, and precise cellar practices yield significant results. Upon tasting the range of wines from the estate, it becomes immediately apparent that these are authentic expressions of terroir, a testament to the careful use of new oak. Each wine, at every tier, faithfully reflects its place of origin. To truly understand the essence of Volnay and Pommard, one need look no further than Domaine Joseph Voillot.
