    Domaine Bachelet-Monnot

    Burgundy (France), France (France)

    6 x 750 ml

    Pasta, Salad, Vegetables, White Meat

"(made from six parcels located "next to" the premier and grand crus of Chassagne-Montrachet, according to Alexandre Bachelet, who added that about half of these vines are less than 30 years old): Distinctly floral, pure scents of pear, white peach and menthol; showing well today thanks to the earlier malolactic fermentation, which finished in February. Juicy and light on its feet, with its flavors of white peach, menthol and dusty stone displaying modest flesh but lovely precision. Finishes with very good lift. The Bachelets will rack this wine just before the 2018 harvest, but it will remain in stainless steel until bottling next March or April."

"Crisp white fruit without the sulphidic complexity of their Santenay, but loads of leesy, mealy character on the palate. Very savoury and very dry to finish – cries out for food."

    Ausás Bodegas y Viñedos

Ribera del Duero (Spain), Spain (Spain)

    6 x 750 ml

Breads, Ham, Hard Cheese, Red Meat, Vegetables

"In its first year, the 2016 Interpretación is Tempranillo from over 40-year-old head-pruned vines on sand, clay and limestone soils with plenty of stones at 900 meters in altitude. It went through a cold soak and fermented with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel and concrete vats. It matured for 16 months in 225- and 500-liter oak barrels, 40% of them new. I was blown away by the wine in bottle, after tasting the 2017 in barrel. This is Ausás's interpretation of Ribera del Duero after 30 years of experience. He's sourcing grapes from specific growers that he has known for a long time, as he had purchased grapes for Alión from many of them. The wine shows the character of Ribera, a chalky backbone of fine-grained tannins, coated by fruit and berries, an herbal, spicy touch and perfectly integrated oak. There is good freshness, a rare combination of elegance and power and superb balance. My guess is the wine should develop nicely and for a very long time in bottle."

"Intense cranberry and raspberry aromas meet with sultry baking spices, dried ginger, exotic wood and game on the nose of this bottling. The palate is intense in the same red fruits but layered in wild sagebrush and roasted quail, with bright acidity that is strong yet balanced. Drink now–2036."

Sappy and seamless on the palate, with juicy boysenberry, cassis and floral pastille flavors that flesh out with air. Fine-grained tannins build on the finish, which lingers with excellent tenacity and resonating spiciness."

"The 2013 Piedlong is a spectacular showing from the Brunier Family. It instantly opens with gorgeous aromas of dark cherries and black plums, layered with exotic spices, lavender and fresh minerals. This continues to impress on the palate with its wonderful richness and depth, backed by beautifully concentrated flavors of dark fruits, spices and lavender, which carry on well into the finish. Overall, this is a stunning wine which is already extremely appealing, and also shows the potential to evolve for years to come. Composed of 90% Grenache from the Piediong plateau with the addition of 10% Mourvèdre from the district of Pignan"

"Apple puree, lemon brioche, cream and pastry on the nose and palate. Full body. Creamy with very fine bubbles and a long and flavorful finish. Great finish. A triumph in a year that is contentious for some palates. To succeed in challenging years is the sign of a great vigneron and we love this!"

  8. New Brunello di Montalcino DOCG by Uccelliera 2014

    Uccelliera

    Italy (Italy), Tuscany (Italy)

    6 x 750 ml

Breads, Cured Meat, Ham, Hard Cheese, Red Meat, Roasted Vegetables

"The 2014 Uccelliera Brunello di Montalcino is a simply fabulous effort in this vintage. It begins with inviting aromas of dried cherries and wild berries which are laced with leather, dried florals, minerals with hints of eucalyptus, orange rind andspices which all develop beautifully. It goes on to impress with its medium-plus body and gorgeous silky tannins that beautifully caress the palate. Displaying outstanding balance and finesse this goes on to throughly impress all the way through the lingering finish. This is drinking remarkably well even ay this early stage and should go on to evolve nicely with some bottle age. A magical effort from Andrea Cortonesi, who has who certainly excelled in making a wonderful wine in this extremely difficult vintage."

"The 2017 Volnay Santenots 1er Cru comes from a parcel of 60-year-old vines. The attractive, floral bouquet is well defined, offering black and red fruit combined with iris and light incense aromas and demonstrating good vigor. The palate is medium-bodied with fine backbone. A more masculine Santenots compared to its peers, but conveying energy and impressive focus on the slightly ferrous finish. Excellent."

    Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe

    France (France), Southern Rhône (France)

"(made with 50% whole clusters): Deep, bright-hued red. Spicy raspberry and cherry on the nose, complicated by notes of white pepper, candied flowers and allspice. Juicy and focused, offering ripe cherry and red berry flavors that show a hint of medicinal bitterness. Turns sweeter and deeper with air and shows very good clarity on the finish, which is framed by fine-grained tannins that fold quickly into the sappy fruit."
