    "A superb vintage in the region has produced a great 2014 Reserva, a wine where they select grapes from the soils with more limestone within their estate. A blend of 80% Tempranillo with 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, it has good ripeness, power and freshness, coming through as a textbook Reserva. It's still young and lively after an élevage in French barrels (40% of them new) for some 20 months. This was inspired by some wines from Bordeaux, even though it has a somewhat more Mediterranean profile... The palate of this 2014 is better than the nose at the moment. Sisseck compared 2014 to 1995, an almost perfect year in the region."

    "Plenty of violets, pepper and deep-set spices are all part of the equation here, and this is a very complex Côte Rôtie that has a wealth of darkly stony notes, coal smoke and dark chocolate. Just superb! The palate's succulent and swathed in plush, fine tannins that envelop black- and red-plum flavors. Plenty of volume, great elegance and a lot of detail. A vintage when experienced makers could still shine, and the sorting in the vineyard was clearly a large part of this. Classy wine with so much on offer. Best from 2020 for a decade or more. Tasted in tank shortly before bottling."

    "“Finesse, but not without concentration” is how Jean-Paul referred to the 2014s. We tasted a number of component parts from across his blends of 16 different parcels. Rather than bottling single parcels he prefers to blend, and keeps new oak to a minimum (10-15%). The overall impression is a fragrant, floral, peppery style with good aromatic definition and adequate concentration for medium-term ageing. It will be ready relatively early, and despite not being a terribly weighty vintage, its elegance and balance with provide much pleasure."

    Deep opaque purple in colour, the Rutherford Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon is an alluring wine, with scents of coffee, cocoa, blackberries and cedar. The wine has a wonderfully velvety texture and length, with added flavours of black liquorice, red currants and a hint of cinnamon.

     

    "The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Rutherford Reserve is 91% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Petite Verdot, and the rest Cabernet Franc and Merlot. It is a terrific example of Rutherford viticulture, with loads of kirsch liqueur, crème de cassis, dusty, loamy soil undertones, spice box and Christmas fruitcake. It is dense ruby/purple in colour and full-bodied, with sweet, supple tannins. Among all the Reserves from Frank Family Vineyards, this seems to be the most precocious and easiest to drink at present. It certainly has 20 years of upside to it. This is a beauty and another impressive offering."
