"The 2016 'La Deveze' is a wonderful showing which beings with inviting aromas of black raspberries and dark red plums that are woven together with licorice, spices and fresh lavender. This medium-bodied red possesses wonderful balance, concentration and depth with a gorgeous velvety texture, which is layered with ripe dark fruits and licorice. This will be accessible upon release, but will also develop nicely with another year of bottle age."

"Schedule to be bottled soon, the 2014 Côtes du Roussillon will certainly be an outstanding wine, as well as serious value. Offering up killer notes of cassis, licorice, toasted bread and cracked pepper, it’s medium bodied, fresh and lively, with a seamless, sexy, yet elegant texture. Less concentrated than the 2013s, it nevertheless has plenty of depth, as well as fine tannin on the finish."

The palate is medium to full-bodied, with a lovely velvety texture that displays beautiful depth and focus. Flavors of ripe black raspberries, dark plums and violets notes continue to build through the long, juicy finish. Raspberry pastry finish. Fresh and juicy. At 250m altitude, this is lower than the Diable plot. The vines are 80+ years old. Barrel sample."

  5. New Châteauneuf Du Pape Cuvée Réservée by Domaine du Pegau 2017

    $504.00

    Domaine du Pégau

    France (France), Southern Rhône (France)

    6 x 750 ml

Breads, Hard Cheese, Red Meat, Vegetables

"Not yet bottled, the 2017 Châteauneuf Du Pape Cuvée Réservée is a normal blend of 80% Grenache, 6% Syrah, 4% Mourvèdre, and the rest assorted varieties (not destemmed), brought up all in foudre and old barrels. It has classic Pégau notes of ground pepper, earth, meat, truffle, and blackcurrants as well as medium to full body, good density, building tannins, and a great finish. Laurence compared this vintage to 2005, but I think this 2017 has more density and flesh. It’s a beautiful, classic Pégau that reminds me a slightly toned down 2009."

"(made with 50% whole clusters): Deep, bright-hued red. Spicy raspberry and cherry on the nose, complicated by notes of white pepper, candied flowers and allspice. Juicy and focused, offering ripe cherry and red berry flavors that show a hint of medicinal bitterness. Turns sweeter and deeper with air and shows very good clarity on the finish, which is framed by fine-grained tannins that fold quickly into the sappy fruit."

Sappy and seamless on the palate, with juicy boysenberry, cassis and floral pastille flavors that flesh out with air. Fine-grained tannins build on the finish, which lingers with excellent tenacity and resonating spiciness."

"The 2013 Piedlong is a spectacular showing from the Brunier Family. It instantly opens with gorgeous aromas of dark cherries and black plums, layered with exotic spices, lavender and fresh minerals. This continues to impress on the palate with its wonderful richness and depth, backed by beautifully concentrated flavors of dark fruits, spices and lavender, which carry on well into the finish. Overall, this is a stunning wine which is already extremely appealing, and also shows the potential to evolve for years to come. "A wine with playful, attractive character. An array of red, blue and purple fruits. Gently spicy, chalky and fragrant, it has a very supple, fleshy and layered palate with a web of fine, smooth and supple tannins. Extremely elegant and composed. A long draw on the finish. Great depth and drive. This will live super long. Try after 2020. (NS)"
