    Cortonesi

    Italy (Italy), Tuscany (Italy)

    12 x 750 ml

Breads, Ham, Hard Cheese, Lard, Red Meat

From 100% Sangiovese Grosso from single vineyards in Montalcino. This Baby Brunello is one of the best value wines from the area. Lèonus is sangiovese of natural and effortless appeal. With pocketed thoughts of Rosso and Brunello di Montalcino in mind you can extrapolate with elastic, proverbial stretch and easily wind up here. It's simple really, straightforward and noted as a gulpable mouthful of rocks tumbling in wet concrete. The great round acidity equalizer acts for mostly northern Montalcino fruit plus 20 percent from the south. Tommaso Cortonesi comes at it with a threefold selection; at harvest, in fermentation and from élevage. It's entry level so just drink it. The fruit is darker and deprived of firm astringency, spent four months in 3000L Slavonian oak and three months in bottle. For every day, especially with antipasti.

"Love the lifted scent of rosemary that leads the charge of flavours. Also expect currant, raspberry fruit, nicely integrated oak and a hint of meaty salami. Quite exotic aromatics. It is medium-full bodied, lively, spicy and warm on the palate. The balance is very good with juicy acidity, warm alcohol and slightly gritty tannin all in proportion. The length is very good to excellent."

"Made from Piedirosso grapes and matured in new-wood barriques. The wine has a bright, ruby color and a broad bouquet with notes of Marasca cherry, lavender, myrtle and violet together with a fresh, vegetal nuance. The saline and taut mouthfeel is pleasing, harmonious, fresh and rewarding with soft and totally integrated tannins and an excellently persistent aftertaste."

"This is an exciting red with a profusion of elderberries, blackberries, tea leaves and tar and licorice. It’s full-bodied and stacked in layers of structured tannins, the acidity flitting and swerving effortlessly through the agile dark fruit, helping the finish to spread out in long, complex bands of floral perfumes."

    Dominio de Aguila

Ribera del Duero (Spain), Spain (Spain)

    6 x 750 ml

    Pasta, Red Meat

"2017 was an unusually short crop as a result of terrible frost in April 2017, when thermometers reached -10 degrees Celsius in some places. The 2017 Pícaro del Águila Tinto, their entry-level and most approachable red, was seriously affected, of course. They lost some 60% of the volume, but the wine is incredible for the condition of the year. It feels a little more mysterious, not as expressive or open, a bit reductive perhaps, but the aromas are clean and don't show any excess ripeness. They did an amazing job eliminating all the raisins that didn't make it into the fermentation vat, and the extra workload has clearly paid off. The wine has some grip and fine, chalky tannins. 17,025 bottles and 487 magnums produced. It was bottled unfiltered and unfined and with just a little sulfur added in October 2018 after 12 months in oak barrels."

    Chateau Lassegue

    Bordeaux (France), France (France)

    6

Cured Meat, Hard Cheese, Red Meat

"From American Jess Jackson’s vineyard in St.-Emilion (run by the incomparable Pierre Seillan), the 2010 Lassegue possesses an opaque purple color as well as a dense, muscular, masculine style displaying lots of black cherry and black currant fruit intermixed with hints of new oak and graphite. Full-bodied but backward, this cuvee (like most of Seillan’s wines) is built for the long haul. It requires 5-7 years of patience and should last for 20+ years."

  10. New Cornas Les Ruchets by Jean-Luc Colombo 2017

    $899.94

    Jean Luc Colombo

    France (France), Northern Rhône (France)

    6 x 750 ml

    Cured Meat, Red Meat

"Intensely fruity and glossy in mouthfeel, this supple Syrah is packed with flavors of cassis preserve and plum. A ripe expression of Cornas, it maintains the classic signature too, a smokiness accentuated by hints of bacon fat, ore and sage. Vibrant acidity and fine, gripping tannins lend firm structure. Gorgeous already the wine will meld, gain depth and perfume through 2037 and hold further."

    96 points / Editor's Choice - Wine Enthusiast, July 2020

"Inky violet color. Powerful black/blue fruit, smoky bacon, wisteria, vanilla and licorice scents are sharpened by black pepper and mineral notes. Concentrated blueberry, cherry liqueur and spicecake flavors show outstanding clarity and a sexy floral nuance. Deftly blends depth and energy and finishes extremely long and sappy, with building tannins framing the wines densely packed, juicy fruit."
