    Aldo Rainoldi

    Italy (Italy), Lombardy (Italy)

    6 x 750 ml

Breads, Cured Meat, Hard Cheese, Red Meat, Roasted Vegetables

Rainoldi's Sfursat Ca' Rizzieri is simply a stunning wine with great structure yet elegant at the same time. A rich and complex nose with plentiful dark fruit aromas, hints of coffee, cocoa and roasted hazelnut. On the palate, there is a lovely tension between sweet, dried fruits and a much juicier, firm cherry character. A wine of high alcohol content, it's intense and mouth-filling with a sheen of tannin. Finishes with remarkable length - absolutely mesmerizing. If you are a fan of Barolo, you will love this wine.

Tre Bicchieri - Gambero Rosso 2019

    4 out of 4 - Vitae Guide 2019

"The 2015 Sfursat di Valtellina Fruttaio Ca' Rizzieri is made from a special selection of Chiavennasca (or Nebbiolo) grapes that are air-dried on mats in the traditional fruttaio Ca' Rizzieri building located 500 meters above sea level. Mountain breezes fuel steady ventilation and keep the clusters healthy. The wine is fermented in barrique and aged in new oak for up to 18 months with an additional year in bottle. This is a mid-weight wine that offers loads of power (with 15.5% alcohol) that spreads clear over the palate. It shows dried berry aromas of cassis and cranberry with subtle tones of bacon fat and campfire ash at the back. This is the proverbial après-ski wine to warm your bones after a long day outdoors in the snow."

    Cavallotto

    Italy (Italy), Piedmont (Italy)

    6 x 750 ml

Breads, Hard Cheese, Red Meat, Roasted Vegetables, Vegetables

"This is a review that looks far, far into the future since this wine is not even technically a Barolo yet. It has not finished its aging process. Tasted from barrel, the 2015 Barolo Bricco Boschis is shaping up beautifully. I tasted it next to the 2013 edition of the same wine that was reviewed last year (with 96+ points). This vintage shows depth and richness with generous texture and fiber. This vintage recalls 2011 and 2017, although it wasn't quite as scorching hot. Of course, the 2014 vintage was not produced because of hail damage in the vineyard. After 2015, we will be treated to the highly anticipated 2016 edition."

The full-bodied palate boasts structure and personality, delivering dried Marasca cherry, blood orange, star anise and tobacco set against a backbone of firm noble tannins."

"Enticingly fragrant, this gorgeous wine opens with classic Nebbiolo aromas of woodland berry, wild rose, forest floor, pipe tobacco, dark spice and a balsamic whiff of menthol. Reflecting the nose, the delicious, structured palate delivers dried cherry, raspberry compote, truffle, star anise and a note of crushed mint. Firm but noble tannins provide the framework and bestow impressive aging potential."

    Scarpa

    Italy (Italy), Piedmont (Italy)

    1 x 750 ml

Breads, Cured Meat, Hard Cheese, Red Meat, Roasted Vegetables

"An admittedly hard act to follow, but the 1962 Scarpa Barolo Riserva Speciale (a wine I hadn’t tried in the last six or seven years and was curious to see how it was holding up) was up to the task, and then some. This bottle was in perfect shape (decent provenance is always a problem with older Italian wines), still showcasing bright red cherry, rose petal and delicate tar aromas and flavors of noteworthy intensity, supported by vibrant acidity; unfortunately, thirty minutes after opening the bottle, less memorable woodsy and underbrush notes took over, while the fruit disappeared. Nevertheless I was very impressed by the wine, especially considering that 1962 is remembered as a vintage of mainly elegant Barolos but of dubious ageworthiness. Clearly, they were confident of the wine’s merits at Scarpa, as they chose to make a Riserva Speciale, something I wouldn’t have thought to be a particularly good idea in the 1962 vintage. Clearly, this wine proves me wrong."

    Bruno Giacosa

    Italy (Italy), Piedmont (Italy)

    6 x 750 ml

Breads, Cured Meat, Ham, Hard Cheese, Red Meat, Risotto

"The balance of cherry, strawberry and sweet spice flavors and dense, dusty tannins leaves a divide that needs time to bridge. Offers the requisite amount of fruit, and the finish persists, with sweetness to offset the tannins. Firm, dense and long, gaining floral notes and a more ethereal profile with air. Best from 2022 through 2040."
