  1. $94.50

    Cave Spring Cellars

Canada (Canada), Niagara (Canada), Ontario (Canada)

    6 x 750 ml

On the nose, scents of white flowers, wet stone, and cantaloupe emerge over top hints of black licorice and fresh herbs. The palate is medium dry with concentrated pink grapefruit and mandarin orange on the attack, giving way to yellow cherry fruit on the mid-palate. The finish is very persistent, with notes of crushed stone, spice and citrus zest. The long, cool ripening of this vintage has delivered remarkable flavour complexity and a seamless integration of body and acidity on the palate.

The 2013 Tawse Chardonnay is a blend from carefully sourced hand-harvested fruit from select vineyards of the Niagara Peninsula. As such, this balanced wine is a wonderful expression of both terroir and vintage as well as a great value! Perfectly balanced, it is a very versatile and food-friendly wine. Aromas of tropical fruit, cantaloupe, citrus and a hint of oak spice are expressive on the nose and continue through to the palate.

"Still quite tightly wound, Tawse's 2013 Estate Chardonnay is on the firmer side, still quite tacky and almost astringent on the palate with sulphur still noted - this, I suppose, was built for the long term. The estate blend mixes the opulence of the Robyn's and David's Block vineyards with the piercing minerality of the Quarry Road without reaching the extremes of any, as one would expect an "estate" chardonnay to be-representative of the house philosophy. I'd like to see this in another year or so, but it's very tasty now to be sure." - John Szabo MS, June 2017

  3. New Douro Reserva Tinto by Colinas do Douro 2016

    $299.40

    Colinas do Douro

    Douro (Portugal), Portugal (Portugal)

    12 x 750 ml

"This is a rich wine, but its great fruit is balanced with intense acidity that comes from the relatively cool, high-altitude vineyards. These two elements work well together, giving a sophisticated, rich wine that could benefit from another two years' aging. Drink from 2020."

Robyn's Block is the oldest (30+) of the estate's Chardonnay plantings in the Twenty Mile sub-appellation. With each passing vintage, this certified organic-biodynamic wine just keeps getting better. The nose is focused and finessed with fresh citrus, touches of green apple and quince, wet stone and a floral note that all rises above the subtle oak spices. The crisp and zesty lime-citrus fruit and minerals glide on a razor sharp beam of mouth-watering acidity and light up the palate. This is pure elegance in the mouth, a complex array generous (but never weighty) fruit flavours that are balanced out by a wisp of spice that build in intensity through a long, long finish. This is irresistible now but will continue to give pleasure for five or more years. A brilliant Chardonnay made without a heavy hand in the cellar.

"This is the 'beefiest' and richest of the Tawse chardonnays, from 30+ year vines now farmed organically. It shows a billowing nose roasted nuts, ripe apple, meringue/custardy sweetness and buttered toast. It is medium-full bodied, fairly rounded yet founded on firm acidity and minerality, that really shows on the finish. A touch sour-edged - excellent length. A real mouthful."

  5. New Rabigato Douro Branco by Colinas do Douro 2016

    $299.40

    Colinas do Douro

    Douro (Portugal), Portugal (Portugal)

    12 x 750 ml

    Risotto, Vegetables, White Meat

"Oak-aged Rabigato is rare, so it is interesting (and delicious) to taste this successful wine. It has a judicious use of wood (just a hint). The wood has just softened the enthusiastic acidity while crisp fruit broadens this naturally fruity wine. Drink from 2019."

  6. New Chablis 1er Cru Montmains Les Vieilles Vignes by Pascal Bouchard 2012 Chablis 1er Cru Montmains Les Vieilles Vignes by Pascal Bouchard 2012

    $354.00

    Domaine Pascal Bouchard

Burgundy (France), Chablis (France), France (France)

    6 x 750 ml

    Rich Fish, Vegetables, White Meat

"A concentrated, rich wine, very mineral and textured in character. It comes from old vines that give a dense character and layers of citrus, apple and yellow fruit flavors. A strong steely edge, very taut, still shows the wine's youth. Drink from 2018."

  7. $94.00

    Moët & Chandon

    Champagne (France), France (France)

    1 x 750 ml

"Dark, vivid pink. Ripe red berries, rose oil and tangerine on the nose, plus a subtle note of toasty lees. Bitter cherry and berry skin flavors give way to softer raspberry in the middle, with a tangy blood orange nuance adding cut and lift. Packs a punch but shows very good clarity and delineation, finishing round, smooth and quite long."
