The 2016 Cuddy By Tawse Chardonnay is a blend from carefully sourced hand-harvested fruit from select vineyards of the Niagara Peninsula. The 2016 vintage endured a hot and dry summer, translating to more opulent and robust Chardonnay grapes. This wine is an excellent example of terroir, vintage, and great value! The nose greets you with pineapple, pear and caramel apple. The palate is crisp and expressive with bright apple and citrus notes which are complemented by a buttery mouthfeel.

Tawse is proud to partner with Canadian music icon and Order of Canada recipient Jim Cuddy to introduce “Cuddy by Tawse” Chardonnay. Jim collaborated with winemakers Paul Pender and Rene Van Ede to create this premium barrel-fermented blend. Aged 12 months in French oak, this wine displays aromas of Bosc pear, baking spice, white flower and hints of wet stone minerality. Crips notes of grapefruit are accompanied by apple and pear and a touch of shy oak, resulting in a beautiful mouth feel on the palate.

Spectacular value on this double 90 point, back vintage Niagara wine.  Properly treated, high quality fruit leads this elegant, light sytle of Chardonnay.  Aromas of baked apple and honeyed melon finish with slight spice and toasty oak.

"Masterfully made: great value too. A well-rounded, balanced Niagara Chardonnay: not heavy or wimpy, just right. Toasted almond and golden apple aromas. Nice mouth-feel. Pair with roast turkey or chicken. Chardonnay food pairings: roast chicken, lobster in butter, corn dishes, pork, fried chicken, almonds, brie, camembert."

    90 points - Natalie McLean, March 2019

"The 2016 Chardonnay Estate is a blend of grapes form three vineyards parcels at Cave Spring Vineyards, ranging from 32 to 38 years of age. This is a ripe yet dialed-in expression of Chardonnay, which shows the warmth of the vintage but doesn't lose its brightness or purity. Thoughtful management in the cellar called for 50/50 blend of tank and barrel fermented lots, with 20 percent new French oak and an 80/20 mix of selected and indigenous yeast strains. It calls to mind some of the more showy Cave Spring vintages from the past - 2003, 2007 and 2010 - but with more harmony and lengths. Drink now to 2024."

"An opaque purple-black in the glass, this Reserve baco offers aromas of charred toast, rich dark berry fruit and gamy bits. It rolls over the palate in delicious waves of sweet-tinged, rich ripe flavours of cassis, black plum and ripe mulberry interlaced with savoury herbs and great pizzazz. It’s medium-full bodied with good mouthfeel and a long, balanced and delectable finish. The price-quality ratio skews well in your favour… pick up an armful."

    Redstone Winery

    12 x 750 ml

Cocktail, Foie gras, Rich Fish, Soft Cheese, White Meat

"The classic traditional method combination of pinot noir and chardonnay delivers a dry and toasty scintillant in the Redstone Sparkling. The warm and dreamy vintage brings the sunshine ripeness so even though this is a fizz of pulse, energy and high tonality it's well-grounded by creamy pear and white peach fruit. For the price it's both up there with the best that Ontario can offer but also a perfectly suitable Champagne alternative for a fraction of the cost. I'd even go so far as to say it's positioned near the top of méthode Champenoise examples found anywhere in the world."

There is no secret that 2016 can align itself with the best of them in Niagara and chardonnay is clearly right in the middle of the discussion. Knowing that, how could the iconic triad of varietal, producer and vineyard not rise like fresh summer fruit cream to the top of the discourse? The years of Pender and Bourgogne barrel studies have come to this; spot on in blending Quarry fruit from wood and associated forests, staves and toasts, here the crux of sonic, sonar, and olfactory waves are met in optimum phenolic crash. The crush of chardonnay, the cryogenic liquid wait and the ultimate goal is achieved. Balance is struck at 12.5 degrees alcohol and all the perfectly seasoned grape tannin you could want. Drink 2020-2027. 94 points - David Larson, WineAlign, May 2020

This is a classic, firm, mineral driven, very Burgundian chardonnay. I am tempted to compare more to Chablis than Cote de Beaune but Puligny can have this kind of stony yet elegant ambiance. The nose is quite complex with evolving hazelnut, marzipan, toast and wood smoke around green pear fruit. The acidity and minerality make appear "light" but it is not. It is really solid. The spice and minerality hit excellent to outstanding length. Great white wine right under our noses. 94 points - Michael Godel, WineAlign, May 2020

It never fails to amaze me how slowly the wines from Tawse's Quarry Road vineyard evolve. The 2016 is barely out of the gates, still a little sulfury, evidently with a very long life ahead. If you're drinking it now, I'd suggest decanting; the palate is dusty and chalky, acids crunchy and fresh, especially considering the warm 2016 vintage, but Quarry is a cool, windy site - it needs time and/or air. For now it's all citrus and green apple, cherry blossom and linden, with nary a whiff of oak influence. Length and depth are good now, but will develop further with time no doubt. A great vintage for the Quarry. 93 points - John Szabo, MS, WineAlign, May 2020

This Traditional Method Sparkling is made from a base of Quarry Road Chardonnay, with Laundry Vineyard Pinot Noir and Hillside Vineyard Pinot Gris. Having spent 12 months on the lees, this spark has delicious notes of pie crust, crisp green apple and citrus on the nose. These aromas are complimented by flavours of Granny Smith apple, grapefruit and just a hint of pastry on the palate.

    3 bottles x 2019 Rosé
    3 bottles x 2018 Sauvignon Blanc
    3 bottles x 2017 Pinot Noir

3 bottles x 2017 Cuvée Winona VQA Niagara Peninsula

    2019 Rosé

"Our house style of rose is bright and refreshing with a pale colour and great fruit. The nose has vibrant red fruits such as, sour cherry, raspberry, watermelon with complimentary savoury notes with hints of floral orange blossom. The palate supports the nose with rich texture and a delicate finish. This bright, refreshing Rose was built for warm summer days and good company!

    2018 Sauvignon Blanc

"A brand new release of the 2018 Sauvignon Blanc: picked relatively early, 18 hours on skins before pressing, fermentation in stainless steel, with a portion aged in neutral barrels for four months and the remainder in stainless steel. The wine is pale straw in the glass, crisp and fresh, with hints of grass, white flowers, lemon-lime and yellow melon. It's dry, with bright acidity, and add a whisper of white grapefruit and white peach on the palate. A charming wine, delicate and nuanced, far from the heavy vegetal side of the grape — perhaps moving towards a uniquely Niagara expression of the variety?" 90 points - Tim Appelt, WineDiscovery, April 2019

    2017 Pinot Noir

"From de-classification choices made in the winery, the NP pinot noir is a blend of Lowrey and Senchuk vineyard fruit that didn’t make it into the single-vineyard bottles. Falls somewhere not precisely calculated in the 12-18 months barrel age time for fruit sweet and structured, elevated into the ether tonal zone and ready to please, if you please. Take some time and realize the dream, of pinot noir made the right way from an agglomeration out of all the correct places and spaces." 90 points - Michael Godel, Winealign, March 2019 (2016 Vintage)

    2017 Cuvée Winona

This blended wine over-delivers massively for the price. The nose is pronounced with dried cranberries, lavender, licorice, cocoa, cedar, and blueberries that the palate replicates and follows with raspberry, vanilla, and rich tannins. It is perfectly drinkable now but will age well over the next 5-8 years. Great with burgers, cured meat, and hard cheese.
