After its lovely crimson-ruby color with raspberry tints, Château La Coudraie Red reveals a nice powerful bouquet of red fruit scents with hints of flowers, spices, and mildish mint. On the palate, it is fleshy, rounded and fruity with fine, mature tannins and a lovely fresh finish.
It is at its best served at room temperature of about 17-18°C with pâté, roasted red meat, grilled white meat, lamb stew and selections of hard cheeses. It is pleasant right now and will keep all its qualities for another 4 years or so.

Intense spicy aromas of ground white pepper and cardamom along with a whiff of yellow apple. Vibrant mouthfeel even with its lean body structure. On the palate are notes of greengage and dried pineapple - lovely fruitiness with graceful acidity. Good balance and tension. A discreet and elegant tarty touch on the finish.

This flagship red wine, Equuleus is a classically styled blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Cabernet Franc and 25% Merlot. But Château des Charmes don’t make it every year. To be considered an “Equuleus year” each of the three grape varieties must have achieved at least 23.5º Brix at harvest. The 2012 vintage was awarded the Ontario Wine Awards “Red Wine of the Year” in 2017. Aged for 16 months in 1/3 new French oak, 2/3 in non-new French oak then the blend rests in French oak casks for several months. The result is rich and complex with flavours of cassis and dark chocolate. Equuleus is ready to drink now, but will continue to develop in the bottle for at least another 5-10 years.> Learn More
