    Terres de Vidalba

    Priorat (Spain), Spain (Spain)

    6 x 750 ml

“The 2007 TOCS was sourced from a single vineyard named Barranc de la Bruixa located outside the town of Poboleda. The blend is 35% Garnacha, 30% Syrah, with the balance Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot aged for 16 months in 20% new French oak. Aromas of wood smoke, mineral, herbs, lavender, black cherry, and blueberry inform the nose of this layered, opulent Priorat. With excellent volume and enough structure to evolve for 1-2 years, this sweetly-fruited, lengthy offering will be at its best from 2013 to 2022.” - Wine Advocate, May 2011

"Brilliant pink. Intense red berry and tangerine scents show very good clarity and a suave floral note that builds in the glass. Silky, seamless and broad on the palate, offering juicy raspberry and blood orange flavors underscored by a smoky mineral nuance. Finishes sappy and quite long, featuring echoing red fruit character and a touch of candied rose. I really like the interplay of power and finesse here."

    Rioja (Spain), Spain (Spain)

    6 x 750 ml

Breads, Cured Meat, Hard Cheese, Red Meat, Roasted Vegetables

"This savoury, spicy blend of Tempranillo with 20% Garnacha and 5% each of Mazuelo and Graciano has plenty of weight, with an undertone of balsamic complexity. 2018-25"

93 points - Tim Atkin MW, Feb 2018

"The red they say was born to go with tapas and sold in local restaurants is the 2009 Viña Cubillo Tinto Crianza. 2009 was a warm and ripe year, and this blend of Tempranillo, 20% Garnacha (or the masculine Garnacho they like to use) plus 5% each Graciano and Mazuelo from limestone soils with quite a lot of clay, feels juicy and soft. It fermented with natural yeasts in large oak vats and matured in used barriques for three years. This is a bottling that has grown and improved a lot since 2004-2005. It shows very good balance between fruit and more developed aromas, with hints of leather and cherries, spices and smoke, very clean and with good volume in the palate. It's usually a little riper and with higher alcohol than Tondonia or Bosconia, with the character, finesse and elegance of a classical Reserva. 93,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in April 2013."

    Bodega Classica

    Rioja (Spain), Spain (Spain)

    12 x 750 ml

Breads, Cured Meat, Hard Cheese, Red Meat, Roasted Vegetables

The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin: tart red berried fruit, laced with tobacco and dried herbs on the dry, crisp finish. This is a superb classical Rioja Crianza and a stunning value.

    Lopez de Heredia

    Rioja (Spain), Spain (Spain)

    6 x 750 ml

Breads, Cured Meat, Hard Cheese, Red Meat, Roasted Vegetables

"The 2006 Viña Bosconia Reserva, always more rustic and powerful than the Viña Tondonia, was cropped from a warm and early harvest and is a blend of Tempranillo with 15% Garnacha and 5% Graciano and Mazuelo. This wine matures in used American oak barrels for five years. It has a very developed nose, and as winemaker Mercedes López de Heredia noted, "It could be confused with a Gran Reserva, as I see it more tertiary and developed." These are amazing wines, clean and complex, with polished tannins and surprisingly good acidity. I have the idea of 2006 as a warmer vintage, but it's not true throughout Rioja; as I've seen with other wines, like the ones from Muga, in this cooler part of Rioja, the vintage was much better. There are some dusty tannins and some flavors that still remind you of fresh fruit."

"I loved the wild character of the young, unoaked 2017 Señorío de P. Peciña Cosecha, mostly Tempranillo with some 3% Garnacha and 2% Graciano fermented in stainless steel with indigenous yeasts. It had a light maceration and extraction and was kept in tank for two months before bottling. It has a raw and savage nose, mixing raspberry leaf and earthy aromas, full of character with elegant rusticity. It's juicy and chewy, as pure as it gets. I'd love to see this wine in a couple of years. 60,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in December 2017."

    12 x 750 ml

Breads, Cured Meat, Ham, Hard Cheese, Red Meat, Salted or Marinated Mushrooms

Bright violet color. Complex, highly perfumed bouquet evokes ripe red berries, incense and Asian spices, with a suave floral overtone. Stains the palate with sweet, seamless raspberry liqueur and rose pastille flavors sharpened by a note of blood orange. Concentrated yet lithe, with smooth tannins sneaking in slowly to add grip to the wine's vivacious fruit. It's amazing how tasty the finish can get with these granite soils.

    6 x 750 ml

Breads, Cured Meat, Ham, Hard Cheese, Red Meat, Salted or Marinated Mushrooms

From a single vineyard with 75+ year-old vines. Vivid red. Intensely perfumed aromas of ripe red berries, blood orange, Asian spices and smoky minerals, with a suave floral accent emerging with aeration. Silky, seamless and appealingly sweet, offering concentrated raspberry and boysenberry flavors and a refreshingly bitter jolt of blood orange. Closes on an emphatic red fruit note, with gentle tannic grip and excellent persistence. This reminds me a lot of a high-class Burgundy from a warm vintage, or maybe a Grenache-based, cool-year southern Rhône wine.

    Clos Mogador

    Priorat (Spain), Spain (Spain)

    6 x 750 ml

Breads, Cured Meat, Ham, Hard Cheese, Red Meat, Roasted Vegetables

"This time there were two vintages of the top-of-the-range red to taste, as the 2014 is almost finished and the 2015 Clos Mogador will be released soon. In this warmer vintage, there is a little more Cariñena in the blend, with the final breakdown something like 45% Garnacha, 29% Cariñena, 16% Syrah and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. This had the same vinification and aging as the 2014: fermentation with indigenous yeasts and a 35- to 45-day maceration, followed by an élevage in 300-liter barrels and 2,000-liter foudres that lasted 18 months. 2015 is a rounder and easier year than 2014, and it feels a little riper, supple but with good freshness. It's clean and precise with nicely integrated oak. This was an easy vintage for the winery, and the wines are easy to understand and more approachable early on."

Comes from El Molar, and it's at 310 m with schist soils. 14.5% alcohol. Warm, sweet, spicy, herbal berry fruits nose. Warm, spicy and a bit peppery with warmth and ripeness but also dusty, spicy detail. Grippy and structured but shows restraint. Fresh acidity on the finish. A really distinctive wine that tastes Mediterranean.

  13. New Clos Figueres Priorat by Clos Figueras 2015

    Clos Figueras

    Priorat (Spain), Spain (Spain)

    6 x 750 ml

Breads, Cured Meat, Ham, Hard Cheese, Red Meat, Roasted Vegetables

"Dark black and red in colour, this Gratallops-grown blend of older vine Garnatxa and Carinyena, with 10% of Syrah and 5% of Cabernet Sauvignon, is fermented in mainly older 500 litre barrels before being aged in new and one year old barriques and 300 litre casks. The scents are sweetly enticing for the time being and, tasting this in the context of a vertical, it will turn creamy after a few years, and truffley with further maturation time. The easy, swinging balance of the damson-like Gratallops fruit is evident, but so too is the concentration and innate drama of the wine, the vines producing just half a kilo of grapes each. Having begun richly, you realise by the finish that the wine is a poised mid-weight."

"The red flagship 2006 Viña Tondonia Reserva was inspired by the vineyards of the Médoc but produced with local grapes, 70% Tempranillo, 20% Garnacho, 5% Graciano and 5% Mazuelo, which achieved 13% alcohol in 2006. It always matures in used American oak barriques for some six years. The oldest of all the reds I tasted, it was also the one with more freshness, which speaks to the quality of the vineyard."

95 points - Luis Gutierrez, Wine Advocate, Feb 2018

"Very close in quality to the superlative 2005 (an exceptional vintage in Rioja), this is a wonderfully traditional cuvée of Tempranillo with 20% Garnacha and 5% each of Graciano and Mazuelo. Silky, balanced, fine and mature with a background whisper of old oak, umami, forest floor and wild strawberry flavours and a chalky freshness that cleans the palate."
