  1. New Bandol Rosé by Domaine La Suffrene 2018

    Domaine La Suffrene

    France (France), Provence (France)

    12 x 750 ml

Breads, Cured Meat, Ham, Scallop, Soft Cheese, White Meat

"The art of Rosé is the art of understatement, the art of creating a drinkability so complete that it almost contrives to efface its own origins. Almost. Yet it's a mark of the greatness of this rosé that those origins do linger - namely the distinguished clay-marl terraces of Bandol, and the contentment of the Mourvedre which so relishes growing there. This is a deeper salmon than many of its peers, with scintillatingly peachy-floral fruits. The origins come through most clearly in the palate, with its sustained shaping structure from those contented Mourvedre vines. The Grenache, meanwhile, has brought wealth and fleshy Cinsault charm. It adds up to an irresistible whole."

  2. New Tibouren Côtes de Provence Rouge by Clos Cibonne 2018

    $239.70

    Clos Cibonne

    France (France), Provence (France)

    6 x 750 ml

Ham, Hard Cheese, Red Meat, Suckling Pig, Vegetables

This pure tibouren 2018, vinified in red by the Deforges family at Clos Cibonne, is a marvel. Faintly colored, soflty extracted, well peppered, with flavors of crushed strawberries, brillant... It fluctuates between a Pineau d'Aunis from Coteaux du Loir, the Thierry Navarre's wink and Emmanuel Reynaud's grenache without it exuberance. And to think that if it is not gather with another variety, it will lose its name Côtes de Provence. What a shame, because it is today one of the finest and singural reds of the region.

"Clos Cibonne has been called the R. López de Heredia of France, growing serious rosés that age well for a decade or more. They are based on Tibouren, a local variety that’s dropped out of favor because of its thin skins and uneven ripening. Cibonne has staked its reputation on Tibouren nonetheless, ever since the 1930s, when then-proprietor André Roux replanted all his Mourvèdre with it. This cuvée comes off the estate’s oldest vines, growing in schist within sight of the coast. It ages under a veil of yeast, like Sherry, in 100-year-old foudres, developing a pale copper hue and the scent of a cool, shady glade. Earthy with notes of hazelnuts, blood orange and lemon zest, as well as mouthwatering salinity, it’s the sort of rosé that could stand up to spiced lamb dishes, or rice-stuffed tomatoes."
