Langlois boasts a storied history as a prominent producer in the Loire Valley. Their Cremants surpass both appellation requirements and Champagne AOC standards, resulting in Méthode Champenoise wines of exceptional finesse. The still Sancerres are equally remarkable, setting the benchmark for the appellation with their brightness, intensity, depth, and minerality.
Established in 1885 by Edouard Langlois and Jeanne Chateau (hence the name), Langlois saw a significant rejuvenation in 1973 when the Bollinger family made a substantial investment. While initially drawn to Langlois' Crémant de Loire production, Bollinger played a pivotal role in transforming the estate into a premier quality producer in Sancerre, Saumur, and other regions.
Spanning 175 acres of the finest AOC vineyards in the Loire Valley, Langlois employs an intensely terroir-focused approach for their Crémants. They meticulously extract the best characteristics from six distinct vineyard areas and soil types to craft refined wines. The grapes are hand-harvested in small bins, gently pressed, aged for a minimum of 36 months (compared to the 12-month minimum), and incorporate reserve wines. The crown jewel of their Sancerre holdings is Chateau de Fontain-Audon, where they produce a single-vineyard Sancerre of the same name.
