    Bodegas Antonio Candela

    Spain (Spain), Yecla (Spain)

    12 x 750 ml

Breads, Hard Cheese, Lard, Pasta, Red Meat, Vegetables

"The raw meatiness of the monastrell variety pops out of the glass here. Brambles, heather, charcuterie, beetroot and bracken are all in play. Chewy and very spicy, this trades in deep flavors of undergrowth, encased in mouth-puckering tannins. Luckily, the wood is played out very succinctly, and this ends with acid kick and finesse."

    Bodegas Castro Ventosa

Castilla y Leon (Spain), Spain (Spain)

    12 x 750 ml

Hard Cheese, Pasta, Red Meat, Vegetables

Made by the great Raul Perez. Fresh, mineral-tinged redcurrant and cherry scents show very good clarity and a subtle floral overtone.  Tangy, focused and pure on the palate, offering intense flavors of bitter cherry and red berry preserves.  Shows a light touch that's quite pinot-like, along with a touch of smokiness that carries through a long, mineral-driven finish.  If you want to show somebody what mencia smells, feels and tastes like, serve this one.

    Maetierra

    Rias Baixas (Spain), Spain (Spain)

    12 x 750 ml

    Pasta, Vegetables, White Meat

A great value-priced example of Spanish Albariño with balanced acidity and flavours that lean towards more tropical fruits such as mango and pineapple with crisp and zesty notes of Granny Smith apple and lime. Long, lively finish.

    Los Autores

    Rioja (Spain), Spain (Spain)

    6 x 750 ml

Breads, Ham, Lard, Pasta, Red Meat, Vegetables

Los Autores is a new, specialty negociant label charged with finding some of the most exclusive, compelling, unusual and traditional bottlings of Rioja on the market. We are excited to bring these wines into Canada. For this 2nd edition bottling, made by Rioja legend Ezequiel "El Brujo, the Wizard" García (who made the legendary wines at CVNE during the 60s and 70s), we have a timeless, traditionally styled, Gran Reserva wine: primarily Rioja Alta fruit from long-time contracted mature vineyards in top sites, fermented in tank, racked into seasoned barrels generally 8-10 years of age, where the wine stays for 36 months prior to blending, a long rest in tank and then ageing in bottle. 82% Tempranillo, 8% Mazuelo, 8% Garnacha, 2% Viura. Think somewhere between La Rioja Alta "Viña Arana" and Lopez de Heredia "Viña Tondonia" in aromatic and palate profile, though released just a little bit younger.

    Bodega Classica

    Rioja (Spain), Spain (Spain)

    6 x 750 ml

Duck breast, Pasta, Red Meat, Roasted Vegetables

"Lovely classic nose of sweet blackcurrant, blackberry and cherry fruit with some spice and vanilla notes. There’s also some leather and sweet damson, too. The palate is sweet and concentrated with lovely intensity, still quite a bit of fruit, and some first signs of maturity: undergrowth, prunes, herbs and leather. Very fine."

    Bodega Akutain

    Rioja (Spain), Spain (Spain)

    6 x 750 ml

Breads, Hard Cheese, Pasta, Red Meat, Vegetables

"The 2004 Rioja Gran Reserva from Bodegas Akutain is a lovely the elegant side of Rioja Alta fruit, as it offers up a complex and utterly classic bouquet of plums, raspberries, cigar smoke, an impressively complex base of soil tones, cloves and toasted coconut. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, pure and vibrant, with a great core of fruit, impeccable balance, lovely complexity and a very long, bright and classy finish. Just a great bottle of old school Rioja! 2016-2035+."

    La Rioja Alta

    Rioja (Spain), Spain (Spain)

    6 x 750 ml

Breads, Hard Cheese, Pasta, Red Meat, Suckling Pig, Vegetables

"Fresh blueberries and brambleberries take center stage, which is striking for a wine of this age. There are also lots of roasted herbs, such as sage, not to mention floral elements, including lavender and dried violets. Then come cedar, sandalwood and tar. The tannins are incredibly round and soft, without the slightest hint of anything dry. This is among the most elegant of Riojas, where the acidity is wonderfully pronounced and cuts right through any touch of dried fruit. Long and powerful, yet subtle on the finish. Drink now, or hold for a very long time."

Top 100 Spanish Wines of 2019 - James Suckling, Dec 2019

"It seems like yesterday when the superb 2001 was released, and now I already have the 2010 Gran Reserva 904 in my glass. It has to be among the greatest modern time vintages of this mythical bottling, where they aim for a wine that has a long aging potential. This is mostly Tempranillo with 10% Graciano and 13.5% alcohol, and it matured in fourth-used American oak barrels for four years, during which time the wine was racked every six months. It has the combination of elegance and power only the best vintages are capable of, with the classical aromas, great detail and nuance, very good balance and persistence. They consider 2010 among the best years of this century, and maybe future generations will talk about 2010 like we talk about the great classical vintages of yesterday today. The palate is polished but shows plenty of energy and tension, the tannins are very fine and elegant, and the flavors are focused and clean. This has to be one of the greatest wines from the vintage. A legend in the making."
