Born in 1898 in Vittorio Veneto, Anselmo Paternoster, a knight, played a pioneering role in Italian winemaking and had a profound affection for Aglianico, the grape that symbolized his homeland. In 1925, he established the family-named winery in Barile, initiating an endeavour fueled by his profound love for the unspoiled region. His son, Giuseppe, propelled the company to success, one of the first to earn an oenology degree in the region. The introduction of barriques and innovative winemaking techniques garnered awards, recognition, and widespread acclaim in the Vulture region. Pino, a fervent contributor to trade magazines, played a pivotal role in the discussions leading to the Aglianico-focused DOC in the 1970s. Since 2016, the brand joined the Tommasi Group, enhancing its international distribution.

Now under the leadership of the third generation, Paternoster spans 20 hectares across various Barile districts. The vineyards, managed under certified organic farming, ascend Vulture's slopes beyond 640 meters above sea level. Key plots like Rotondo, Macarico, Pian di Carro, and Gelosia, featuring vines over 50 years old, epitomize prime Aglianico growing areas. Collaboration with skilled local winemakers extends to sourcing Falanghina grapes. The ancient volcanic soils, rich in minerals and exhibiting diverse complex structures, share high acidity, offering distinct expressions over short distances.

Paternoster produces multiple Aglianico-dedicated labels, employing separate vinifications for distinct grape origin areas. Manual harvesting precedes fermentations in steel vats, with macerations lasting a few weeks. Aging occurs in cement tanks or large Slavonian or French oak barriques.
