The Nelson region stands as one of the premier cool-climate wine-producing areas in the New World. Its vineyards bask in the most sunshine hours among all grape-growing regions in New Zealand. This sunshine, tempered by the afternoon sea breeze that sweeps in, cools the vineyards. This slow ripening process, extending from September to the late March to April harvest, gradually intensifies the flavor of the grapes. Pairing this exceptional Nelson climate with ancient, well-drained stony clay loam soils results in handcrafted, vibrant white wines and elegantly structured red wines of remarkable quality.
