This silky smooth blend of Tuscan goodness is mostly Sangiovese with some Merlot and a touch of Syrah to round things out. It has a bright red fruit flavors, light tannins and a smooth finish that makes this wine incredibly drinkable. While delicious on its own, like most Italian reds this wine really comes to life with food. We suggest trying it with pasta, lamb or young cheese. Learn More

"The 2014 Carro is a ridiculous value in a full-bodied, complex, rich and savory dry red wine. Dense ruby/purple with notes of blackberry and blueberry fruit, licorice and camphor, the wine is totally unoaked and naked. This is a beauty of purity and richness and just goes to show what one can buy if careful with researching importers. Drink it over the next several years."

  9. New El Castro de Valtuille Joven by Bodegas Castro Ventosa 2015

    $14.95

    $179.40

    Bodegas Castro Ventosa

    Bierzo (Spain), Spain (Spain)

    12 x 750 ml

Breads, Cured Meat, Hard Cheese, Red Meat, Roasted Vegetables

"The 2015 El Castro de Valtuille Mencía Joven is also fermented in stainless steel, but spends a couple of months in oak vats before bottling. Both young wines are sourced from a diversity of plots in Valtuille de Abajo, totaling some 60 hectares. There are some herbal notes intermixed with wild berries that transmit freshness; although these grapes are always destemmed, the feeling is a little of a full cluster fermentation. The palate is medium-bodied and quite straight, with good acidity and persistence. It feels like 2015 is a good vintage for the young wines."

Bright ruby red with an intense bouquet of red and dark fruit with balsamic notes. Round and ripe on the palate with dark fruit and spice. This is a well-structured Primitivo with great balance. This would pair well with grilled meats, pasta with red or spicy sauces, or with charcuterie and cheese. A crowd pleaser if there ever was one, at a great price to boot! Learn More
