"Behind the strawberry and red cherry there is the spice of new oak giving lots of interest. Red fruits seem to dominate the palate but underpinning are richer black fruits a touch of blackberry and black cherry. There is a lot happening on the finish juniper, some walnut and lots of black and red cherry."

"The 2015 El Castro de Valtuille Mencía Joven is also fermented in stainless steel, but spends a couple of months in oak vats before bottling. Both young wines are sourced from a diversity of plots in Valtuille de Abajo, totaling some 60 hectares. There are some herbal notes intermixed with wild berries that transmit freshness; although these grapes are always destemmed, the feeling is a little of a full cluster fermentation. The palate is medium-bodied and quite straight, with good acidity and persistence. It feels like 2015 is a good vintage for the young wines."

Breads, Cured Meat, Red Meat, Roasted Vegetables, Soft Cheese, White Meat

Fruit forward, rich and mouthwatering, showing generous red fruits complemented by spicy notes giving an overall impression reminiscent of an amaro. The fresh and fruity Merlot is bolstered by the complexity contributed by Montepulciano sourced from the winery owner’s personal vineyards. Not technically allowed in an Italian wine labelled Merlot, but it makes for a great combination! Learn More

Breads, Cured Meat, Hard Cheese, Red Meat, Roasted Vegetables

"The 2014 Carro is a ridiculous value in a full-bodied, complex, rich and savory dry red wine. Dense ruby/purple with notes of blackberry and blueberry fruit, licorice and camphor, the wine is totally unoaked and naked. This is a beauty of purity and richness and just goes to show what one can buy if careful with researching importers. Drink it over the next several years."

    Italy (Italy), Tuscany (Italy)

    12 x 750 ml

Breads, Cured Meat, Hard Cheese, Red Meat, Roasted Vegetables

This silky smooth blend of Tuscan goodness is mostly Sangiovese with some Merlot and a touch of Syrah to round things out. It has a bright red fruit flavors, light tannins and a smooth finish that makes this wine incredibly drinkable. While delicious on its own, like most Italian reds this wine really comes to life with food. We suggest trying it with pasta, lamb or young cheese. Learn More
