“The 2017 Garnacha Tinto from Legado del Moncayo is nicely ripe, coming in at fourteen percent octane and delivering a classic varietal nose of black raspberries, roasted venison, pepper, garrigue, a touch of celery seed and a complex base of stony soil tones. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, complex and impressively soil-driven, with a rock solid core, ripe tannins and a long, tangy and very well-balanced finish. This is an insanely good value at $11 per bottle here in the states and reminds me of when Châteauneuf du Pape was the bargain in French wines back in the early 1980s! It is approachable today, but will also age very nicely and will be even better with a few years in the cellar to let the tannins soften up a bit more. A great value! 2019- 2035.”

Breads, Cured Meat, Hard Cheese, Red Meat, Roasted Vegetables
Comes from El Molar, and it's at 310 m with schist soils. 14.5% alcohol. Warm, sweet, spicy, herbal berry fruits nose. Warm, spicy and a bit peppery with warmth and ripeness but also dusty, spicy detail. Grippy and structured but shows restraint. Fresh acidity on the finish. A really distinctive wine that tastes Mediterranean.

Bright violet color. Complex, highly perfumed bouquet evokes ripe red berries, incense and Asian spices, with a suave floral overtone. Stains the palate with sweet, seamless raspberry liqueur and rose pastille flavors sharpened by a note of blood orange. Concentrated yet lithe, with smooth tannins sneaking in slowly to add grip to the wine's vivacious fruit. It's amazing how tasty the finish can get with these granite soils.

Los Autores is a new, specialty negociant label charged with finding some of the most exclusive, compelling, unusual and traditional bottlings of Rioja on the market. We are excited to bring these wines into Canada. For this 2nd edition bottling, made by Rioja legend Ezequiel "El Brujo, the Wizard" García (who made the legendary wines at CVNE during the 60s and 70s), we have a timeless, traditionally styled, Gran Reserva wine: primarily Rioja Alta fruit from long-time contracted mature vineyards in top sites, fermented in tank, racked into seasoned barrels generally 8-10 years of age, where the wine stays for 36 months prior to blending, a long rest in tank and then ageing in bottle. 82% Tempranillo, 8% Mazuelo, 8% Garnacha, 2% Viura. Think somewhere between La Rioja Alta "Viña Arana" and Lopez de Heredia "Viña Tondonia" in aromatic and palate profile, though released just a little bit younger.

"A prodigious effort, the 2001 Tirant is a 9,000-bottle cuvee made from 30% Grenache (90-100 years old), 25% Carignan (90-100 years old), 25% young vine Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Syrah, and 10% Merlot. Fermented in large oak foudres and aged 12 months in new French oak, it will be bottled with neither fining nor filtration. Inky/purple-colored to the rim, it boasts a spectacular bouquet of blueberries, blackberries, and the region’s classic crushed stone minerality. This full-throttle yet remarkably elegant 2001 possesses tremendous intensity and texture as well as layers of flavor, but comes across as not over the top, overripe, or overly heavy. The 60-second finish reveals more noticeable tannin than the other cuvees. Give it 1-2 years of cellaring and drink it over the following 10-15. The 2001 Tirant is indeed a special wine."
