"This platinum winner at the National Wine Awards is super-bright, squeaky clean and vibrant, with a lovely collage of green apple, toast/ smoke, citrus and mineral aromas and flavours. It is mid-weight, edged with some sense of Chablis-like stoniness. Creamy yet juicy, with excellent length. Great value." 92 pointsDavid Lawrason, Feb 2018

"A classically-styled, cool climate chardonnay with more than a touch of flinty-stony-reduction, crafted with care and to precise parameters. 2013 was by no means an easy Niagara vintage, but the net result of the stressful year was resilient grapes with a wide range of flavours from honey to white flowers to cool fruit of all stripes: citrus, apple, pear and the like. Complexity and poise are excellent here; no wonder this was awarded a WineAlign platinum medal in 2017. And at this price, it's a steal." 92 pointsJohn Szabo MS, Feb 2018

The 2013 Tawse Chardonnay is a blend from carefully sourced hand-harvested fruit from select vineyards of the Niagara Peninsula. As such, this balanced wine is a wonderful expression of both terroir and vintage as well as a great value! Perfectly balanced, it is a very versatile and food-friendly wine. Aromas of tropical fruit, cantaloupe, citrus and a hint of oak spice are expressive on the nose and continue through to the palate.

"Still quite tightly wound, Tawse's 2013 Estate Chardonnay is on the firmer side, still quite tacky and almost astringent on the palate with sulphur still noted - this, I suppose, was built for the long term. The estate blend mixes the opulence of the Robyn's and David's Block vineyards with the piercing minerality of the Quarry Road without reaching the extremes of any, as one would expect an "estate" chardonnay to be-representative of the house philosophy. I'd like to see this in another year or so, but it's very tasty now to be sure." - John Szabo MS, June 2017

"The 2014 Laundry cabernet franc is an archetype of the genre in the cool climate idiom, firm, earthy-herbal, vegetal but not green, with more than a nod back to Loire Valley paradigms. Tannins and acids are well managed, neither taking the fore, both in harmony with the savoury black fruit. Length and depth are very good. Drink or hold another 3-5 years. Tidy stuff."

Robyn's Block is the oldest (30+) of the estate's Chardonnay plantings in the Twenty Mile sub-appellation. With each passing vintage, this certified organic-biodynamic wine just keeps getting better. The nose is focused and finessed with fresh citrus, touches of green apple and quince, wet stone and a floral note that all rises above the subtle oak spices. The crisp and zesty lime-citrus fruit and minerals glide on a razor sharp beam of mouth-watering acidity and light up the palate. This is pure elegance in the mouth, a complex array generous (but never weighty) fruit flavours that are balanced out by a wisp of spice that build in intensity through a long, long finish. This is irresistible now but will continue to give pleasure for five or more years. A brilliant Chardonnay made without a heavy hand in the cellar.

"This is the 'beefiest' and richest of the Tawse chardonnays, from 30+ year vines now farmed organically. It shows a billowing nose roasted nuts, ripe apple, meringue/custardy sweetness and buttered toast. It is medium-full bodied, fairly rounded yet founded on firm acidity and minerality, that really shows on the finish. A touch sour-edged - excellent length. A real mouthful."

"Tawse has been producing wines from the organically farmed Laundry Vineyard since 2002 and until now the Merlot has always been used in our red blends. 2013 sees the debut of the first single vineyard Merlot from that site, as a replacement for the beloved David’s Block. Aged in 40% new oak barrels, the colour is beautifully brilliant with a nose bursting with blackberry jam, alongside notes of vanilla, toasty oak and cardamom. Big, bold yet approachable tannins are experienced at the start before the toast and spice notes hit mid-palate. The finish is long, smooth and satisfying." - Paul Pender, Winemaker
