"Honeysuckle and oaky aromas provide segue to a medium-full bodied, fully textured mouthful of honey-drizzled lemon and lime intertwined with ripe apricot, ginger snap and notes of buttered toast; this was aged eight months in French oak barrels. This dishes up purity of fruit, deft balance, depth, complexity elegance and charm. Pour with pan-seared pork chops and apple sauce or chicken pot pie."

    Isaac Fernandez Selección

Campo de Borja (Spain), Spain (Spain)

    12 x 750 ml

Breads, Cured Meat, Ham, Roasted Vegetables, Soft Cheese, White Meat

"I’m much more familiar with Garnacha Blanca from Catalonia than Aragon, but this is a very convincing rendition of the variety. Medium-bodied, with open fruit flavors recalling white melon, tangerine and autumn pear, this is quite juicy and flavorful when first sipped, but then shows a more taut, citrus character in the finish. This sensory transition from a broad fore-palate to a linear aftertaste will help this work well with a very wide variety of foods, including anything from a roasted chicken to shellfish dishes such as shrimp or mussels. Delicious, and a very attractive bargain."

"This platinum winner at the National Wine Awards is super-bright, squeaky clean and vibrant, with a lovely collage of green apple, toast/ smoke, citrus and mineral aromas and flavours. It is mid-weight, edged with some sense of Chablis-like stoniness. Creamy yet juicy, with excellent length. Great value."

"A classically-styled, cool climate chardonnay with more than a touch of flinty-stony-reduction, crafted with care and to precise parameters. 2013 was by no means an easy Niagara vintage, but the net result of the stressful year was resilient grapes with a wide range of flavours from honey to white flowers to cool fruit of all stripes: citrus, apple, pear and the like. Complexity and poise are excellent here; no wonder this was awarded a WineAlign platinum medal in 2017. And at this price, it's a steal."

"Tawse is proud to partner with Canadian music icon and Order of Canada recipient Jim Cuddy to introduce “Cuddy by Tawse” Chardonnay. Jim collaborated with winemakers Paul Pender and Rene Van Ede to create this premium barrel-fermented blend. Aged 12 months in French oak, this wine displays aromas of Bosc pear, baking spice, white flower and hints of wet stone minerality. Crips notes of grapefruit are accompanied by apple and pear and a touch
of shy oak, resulting in a beautiful mouth feel on the palate.

    Cave Spring Cellars

Canada (Canada), Niagara (Canada), Ontario (Canada)

    6 x 750 ml

Breads, Cured Meat, Rich Fish, Soft Cheese, White Meat

"That flesh, that Kabinett flesh, fills the CSV in every crevice. In 2013 the residual sugar number lies between 15 and 16 g/L, and though the crop was bigger, it was still picked later than in 2012. The result is formidable corporeal concentration, consistency of house style and perhaps the only '13 Niagara Riesling to imitate, perpetuate and extrapolate on the vintage that came before. This Cave Spring concentrates fruit and Escarpment into a powerful Riesling, streaming like charged particles through changing expressions. A lingering ascension hovers as it rises, until it slowly fades into the welkin, like a balloon that languidly gets lost into the blinding blue of a midday sky. Drink 2017-2025."

At WineOnline.ca we absolutely love white wine. White grapes, such as Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, Viognier, Verdejo, Riesling, Garganega etc, (there are 1000’s more), produce roughly the same quantity of grapes as their red counterparts, but for reasons unknown, many people believe a good white wine should cost less than a quality bottle of red wine. A quality white wine typically takes as much time and energy to produce as a quality red wine. Neither must be expensive, but to expect more quality from a popular white wine for less money than a red, does not make sense.

Of course, white wines can be all over the map. There is sweet white wine, the most famous of which is, of course, Sauternes which is produced in Bordeaux. Sauternes is produced from the Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon grapes, though you will never see Sauvignon Blanc or Semillon written on the label. Chateau Yquem would be the most recognizable name/producer in Sauternes, and of course, the most expensive of the Sauternes producers. The Hungarian version of iconic sweet wine, is Tokaj, which is perhaps not quite as famous, but equally delicious. There are dry white wines which are produced all over the world, but many would suggest the best dry white wine is produced in Burgundy, with the most popular white wine produced in Burgundian churning out Montrachet or derivatives of Montrachet, such as Batard Monthrachet, or Bievenue Batard Montrachet. All of the white wine in Burgundy is produced from the Chardonnay grape, though once again, you will rarely, if ever, see Chardonnay written on the label. If you are looking for a different style of Chardonnay, perhaps something oakier, you may want to consider finding great white wine types in different areas of California. Napa Chardonnay, or Chardonnay from Santa Barbara are a couple of the more famous areas for production. If you are looking for the best white wine, you might consider looking in Spain, Portugal, Italy or even South America. There are countless good white wine produced in the Mediterranean countries where they often consume more white wine than red. I believe there are a number of reasons for this. 1st of all, it is typically very warm and people want to drink something cool and refreshing, 2nd, there is a lot of fishing and it is hard to argue that white wine does not go better with fish than red wine.

Some white wine lovers might suggest the best Sauvignon Blanc comes from New Zealand, my personal favourite regions for Sauvignon Blanc production are Sancerre and even those from Southern Austria and Slovenia. I must impress on you that I am of the opinion that best is always in the eye of taste buds of the wine drinker. There is no right or wrong, and only opinion. Whether you like bold white wines, or elegant light white wines, sweet white wine, or dry, at WineOnline.ca we scour the world to ensure you are drinking the best, and the best value white wines there are anywhere.
