TRUS Ribera del Duero by Bodegas Trus 2024
Ribera de Duero, Spain / Extra Dry, Full Body Red / Tempranillo / Oaked
Strawberry, cherry, red plums, candies and violets. The fresh fruit dominates and marks this wine over the oak. A surprise that the fruit is more on the red than on the black spectrum. Not opulence, but elegance. With soft tannins and a refreshing sensation with plenty of youthful flavours coping with that toasty aroma. For a lot of unpretentious enjoyment.

El Picaro Toro by Matsu 2025
Toro, Spain / Extra Dry, Mid Body Red / Tempranillo / Oaked
Picaro means 'rogue' or 'rascal', and this rapscallion of a wine is a youthful interpretation of the Toro region's style. The grapes come from mature vines of over 50 years of age, but the wine spends only three months in oak, preserving their natural fruit profile. Vivid crimson-purple in the glass. Aromas are of ripe blackberries and raspberries, with subtle hints of fresh cocoa. The palate is bold yet supple, with ripe tannins and a mineral grip.
Rioja Crianza by Palacio del Camino Real 2022
Rioja, Spain / Extra Dry, Mid Body Red / Graciano, Tempranillo / Oaked
Generous strawberry, raspberry and plum fruits are woven skilfully with vanilla and spice, thanks to some time in oak. In fact, this wine has been aged for 18 months in barrel, which is longer than the minimum requirement for a Rioja Crianza. There's a little complexity with some coffee and balsamic notes, but ultimately it is smooth, fruity and incredibly easy drinking.
Bienbebido Pulpo Albariño NV by Vintae
Rioja, Spain / Dry, Light Body White / Albariño / Unoaked
Albariño is usually grown in coastal Spanish regions, but this wine is from a little-known area in Rioja – Valles de Sadacia. You might think that the Rioja region is too hot to nurture a grape that thrives by the sea, but Valles de Sadacia is famed for its dry white wines. And this is a stellar example. Expect apple, citrus and stone-fruit flavours that’ll pair exceptionally well with seafood paella – or, as its label and name suggest, octopus.
