    Bodega Classica

    Rioja (Spain), Spain (Spain)

    12 x 750 ml

Breads, Cured Meat, Rich Fish, Soft Cheese, White Meat

100% Viura from 50-80 year-old vines near San Vicente de la Sonsierra in Rioja Alta and aged for 2 months in French oak barrels. White fruit and flowers on the nose, following through on the palate with riper fruit, good stucture, freshness and complexity. Long, pleasant finish. This wine is a steal!

"A wine that came to my notice thanks to the 10 x 10 tasting in London, this is a leesy, subtly oaked Viura with plenty of zip and perfume, crunchy acidity and a sprinkling of white pepper to embellish the citrus and pear fruit flavours. 2018-21"

    Bodegas Castro Ventosa

    Bierzo (Spain), Spain (Spain)

    12 x 750 ml

Breads, Cured Meat, Ham, Hard Cheese, Red Meat, Roasted Vegetables

"The young, unoaked and juicy Mencía 2016 Castro Ventosa, in a tall Bordeaux bottle with a pink and garnet label, like all wines, was harvested throughout the season, some before and others after the rain, as this is the biggest volume wine of the winery. The nose is very clean and expressive, with a Rhôneish feel to it. The palate is juicy, with unnoticeable tannins, good freshness and balance. These wines have been harvested earlier and earlier to achieve lower alcohol and more acidity, to make them more drinkable. This is a perfect example of it. 2016 was a short vintage because of mildew, and most of the vineyards delivered around 50% of their normal yields. This wine is no exception. Even if accessible and destined for the short term, they can be surprisingly long lived. Great value.

    Spain (Spain), Utiel-Requena (Spain)

    12 x 750 ml

Breads, Cured Meat, Rich Fish, Roasted Vegetables, Soft Cheese, White Meat

"Brilliant pink. Intense red berry and tangerine scents show very good clarity and a suave floral note that builds in the glass. Silky, seamless and broad on the palate, offering juicy raspberry and blood orange flavors underscored by a smoky mineral nuance. Finishes sappy and quite long, featuring echoing red fruit character and a touch of candied rose. I really like the interplay of power and finesse here."

    Matsu

    Spain (Spain), Toro (Spain)

    12 x 750 ml

Breads, Cured Meat, Hard Cheese, Red Meat, Roasted Vegetables

Picaro means 'rogue' or 'rascal', and this rapscallion of a wine is a youthful interpretation of the Toro region's style. The grapes come from mature vines of over 50 years of age, but the wine spends only three months in oak, preserving their natural fruit profile. Vivid crimson-purple in the glass. Aromas are of ripe blackberries and raspberries, with subtle hints of fresh cocoa. The palate is bold yet supple, with ripe tannins and a mineral grip. Enjoy on its own or with boldly flavoured pasta dishes or spicy meat skewers.
