"Here's a very fragrant, gentle and rich yet refined merlot that captures the essence of the variety well. Lifted aromas raspberry/blackberry, floral, gentle forest floor stay focused on the palate. It is medium-full bodied, almost svelte in texture with easy appeal. The tannins are quite fine, the length is very good to excellent length."

    Megalomaniac

    Niagara (Canada), Ontario (Canada)

    12 x 750 ml

Cured Meat, Hard Cheese, Pasta, Red Meat, Veal roasted

"Ripe, perfumed, wood-inflected, high quality oak in this case, featuring bitter chocolate and vanillins alongside red but mostly fresh black fruit, and candied violets. The palate is mid-weight, polished, with very fine tannins and balanced acids, yet I'd suggest another year or two in bottle to more fully integrate the oak and develop additional complexity. There's enough stuffing here to see it emerge in a better place after 2022. Impressive depth and elegance on offer."

91 Points/5 Star Value Rating - John Szabo MS, Wine Align, February 2020

"This is dense and spicy with some grippy tannins as well as berry and cherry fruits, with a touch of oak spice and a nice contrast between the sleek, ripe fruit and the grippy tannins. Nicely poised with lovely focus to the fruit."

Founded by John Howard, Megalomaniac began as a project to help raise funds for the Kids’ Health Links Foundation. After the original vintage sold out within 90 days, John realized the impact the program might have and the idea of expanding nationally became a strategic opportunity. A second vintage was launched, and since then neither the winery nor the foundation has looked back.

Megalomaniac’s bold branding tactics are at the forefront of the winery’s success. What was originally thought to bring scorn upon the winery has managed to accomplish quite the opposite.

These bottles feature a series of faceless executives wearing the iconic bowler hat accompanied by a unique title generally associated with the Megalomaniac brand. The name itself comes from a brief story that can be found on the back of each bottle.
