"It's easy to forget that the first vintage of Garmón was as recent as 2014, such is the quality of the wine, but the García family's long-standing association with the region has certainly contributed to its success. Picked 10 days later than the 2017, this is my favourite release yet, combining vineyards between 30 and 100 years' old in Anguix, Baños de Valdearados, Moradillo and Tubilla. Chalky, balanced and effortlessly refined, with notes of red berries, fennel and spice, subtle oak and thrilling freshness. A truly great Ribera."

Garmón represents the latest endeavour by the esteemed García family, proprietors of Mauro in Castilla y León and San Román in Toro. With a combined winemaking experience of 30 years at Vega Sicilia, the trio of Mariano García and his sons, Alberto and Eduardo García Montaña, make a formidable team. They've also gained valuable expertise in the Ribera del Duero region. Mariano is a partner at Aalto, and the family has provided consulting services to Astrales for many years. Garmón annually produces approximately 60,000 bottles.
Their new facilities are situated in the village of Olivares de Duero, just 20 kilometers from Mauro. They source grapes from well-established vineyards scattered across various eastern villages in the Burgos province. Moradillo de Roa, located on the left bank of the Duero River, features high-altitude vineyards, some reaching up to 1,000 meters, with clay soils overlaid by sand.
On the right bank, near Aranda de Duero, the García family holds a special fondness for the finesse and balance found in La Aguilera. They collaborate with long-standing suppliers in this area. They also work with small vineyard patches in the villages of Tubilla del Lago, Baños, and Hontoria de Valdearados, an area unaffected by land consolidation. In this region, most vineyards are situated on slopes reaching almost 900 meters in elevation, predominantly with chalky soils. Additionally, the family has plans to acquire more vineyards in the Peñafiel-Valbuena-Olivares area of Valladolid in the near future.
