Sourced from select Niagara Peninsula vineyards. Viticultural practices included vertical shoot thinning, cluster thinning, hand leaf removal and hand harvest. The 2018 Tawse Riesling is a blend from carefully sourced hand-harvested fruit from select vineyards of the Niagara Peninsula. As such, this balanced wine is a wonderful expression of both terroir and vintage, as well as a great value! The nose is bursting with rich aromas of citrus fruits, pineapple, wet stone, and honeysuckle. Notes of meyer lemon and mandarin have a bright expression on the palate. This deliciously off-dry Riesling has a creamy mouthfeel so delicately balanced with a mouthwatering finish.

"Limestone Ridge is a 21.5ha plot planted almost entirely to Riesling. As the name suggests, it is the richest in limestone of Tawse’s vineyards and the most mineral-driven of the estate’s three single-vineyard bottlings. Scents of heather and green apple open on the nose, while grapefruit, lime and chalk embellish the palate. Light bodied but emphatic and intense, it has an explosive, lingering finish. Palpable sweetness is a welcome offset to the racy, spine-tingling acidity which should integrate further with more time in bottle."

Darker berries define the Paul Pender take on Gamay for Niagara and in '13 there is a level of tension and girth not yet approached. This third Tawse Gamay is overt in attitude, connotative of Beaujolais Cru staging, an ovule of rebellion and a disposition just as though in the grips of Asmodeus. The Tawse effect is entrenched in clay and possessive of knowledge as if derived by an invitation only junket to the Gamay motherland. If the stance seems serious, the fruit is up to the task. A Gamay for now and fully capable of aging five or more years.

The 2019 Grower’s Blend Rosé is a Pinot Noir based blend with Cabernet Franc, Gamay Noir and Merlot. The result is a beautiful coral coloured and aromatic Rose that is bursting with aromas of ripe strawberries, raspberries and blood orange. The palate is off-dry with flavours of honeydew melon, rhubarb and red cherries. This well-structured wine has crisp acidity and a satisfying finish

"Baking spice, mineral notes and Granny Smith apple aromas waft easily from this well-paced, well-priced chardonnay. A delightful mouthful of tropical fruit, tangy lemon curd and notions of caramel blanket the palate, balanced and beautiful, medium bodied, nicely textured showcasing persistent purity of fruit and no small amount of charm along with a lengthy mouth-watering aftertaste. Pour on its own or alongside roast chicken or roast pork."

The 2016 Cuddy By Tawse Chardonnay is a blend from carefully sourced hand-harvested fruit from select vineyards of the Niagara Peninsula. The 2016 vintage endured a hot and dry summer, translating to more opulent and robust Chardonnay grapes. This wine is an excellent example of terroir, vintage, and great value! The nose greets you with pineapple, pear and caramel apple. The palate is crisp and expressive with bright apple and citrus notes which are complemented by a buttery mouthfeel.

Tawse is proud to partner with Canadian music icon and Order of Canada recipient Jim Cuddy to introduce “Cuddy by Tawse” Chardonnay. Jim collaborated with winemakers Paul Pender and Rene Van Ede to create this premium barrel-fermented blend. Aged 12 months in French oak, this wine displays aromas of Bosc pear, baking spice, white flower and hints of wet stone minerality. Crips notes of grapefruit are accompanied by apple and pear and a touch of shy oak, resulting in a beautiful mouth feel on the palate.

The Grower’s Blend Sauvignon Blanc made from grapes selected from neighbouring vineyards. This is a very expressive wine that that gives off notes of papaya, pineapple, wet stone and hints of gooseberry that one expects from Sauvignon Blanc. Mouthwatering acidity is noticed first but is perfectly balanced by fruit flavours of tart pineapple, Meyer lemon and tropical fruits. The finish is crisp, clean and satisfying.

Situated on the lower slopes of the Niagara Escarpment, Tawse is a family-owned organic winery. A life-long lover of wine, Burgundy in particular, founder Moray Tawse purchased the Cherry Avenue property in 2001 after realizing the great potential of the Niagara Escarpment as a word-class cool-climate wine region. In 2005, he opened his state-of-the-art winery in Vineland, complete with a six-level, gravity-flow design, geo-thermal system and a wetland bio-filter.

The inspiration for Moray’s eponymous Niagara property came from his love of Burgundian Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Uniting traditional winemaking techniques with state-of-the-art technology, Tawse and the award-winning winemaking team of Paul Pender and Rene Van Ede, is dedicated to producing terroir-driven wines of exceptional elegance, depth and character.

At Tawse, winemaking begins in the vineyards. We proudly apply rigorous organic methods to every aspect of our production from grape-growing to winemaking and Ecocert seals appear on all wines made from our estate fruit.

Today, having acquired over 200 acres (5 vineyards) and being named Canadian Winery of the year in 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2016, Tawse Winery now produces 30,000 cases of wine and has one of the largest portfolios of organic wines in the Niagara region.
